Valued Elders at the Heart of Development: Digital Empowerment, Quality of Life, and Community Participation

The Ministry of Social Development and Family (MSDF), in collaboration with the Doha International Family Institute (DIFI), organized a symposium titled "Valued Elders at the Heart of Development: Digital Empowerment, Quality of Life, and Community Participation." This event was held to mark the International Day of Older Persons and the Arab Day for the Elderly 2025.

The symposium aimed to highlight the vital role of valued elders in the process of community development and emphasize the importance of promoting awareness among successive generations about the value of inter-generational integration. It achieved this by discussing various issues, including digital empowerment, ways to improve the quality of life, and mechanisms to support effective community participation.

The symposium featured dialogue and discussion sessions with the participation of a selection of experts and specialists. These sessions addressed social and health care issues, in addition to reviewing the opportunities available to empower elders to contribute to the economic and cultural fields, reflecting the State's commitment to providing a safe environment and a dignified life for this category.

In a statement, Reem Al Ajmi, Director of the Community Care Department at the Ministry of Social Development and Family, stressed that "This symposium represents an important milestone for renewing our commitment to our valued elders, through developing initiatives that take into account their evolving needs and provide them with the tools and programs that enhance their independence and support their active contribution to society." She added that the Ministry, in partnership with DIFI and relevant entities, seeks to expand the scope of specialized services directed at elders to ensure their sustainability and positive impact.

The Ministry concluded by affirming that this symposium, along with its discussions and outcomes, is part of the State's efforts to build a cohesive society founded on the values of justice and solidarity. This aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030, which places human well-being at the core of its priorities and works to achieve comprehensive and sustainable development that includes all age groups.
